Literacy Launch Pad/SpLD

Literacy Launchpad is a highly effective intervention for the development of pupils’ literacy skills.  Each programme is unique and specifically planned for an individual child or small group. Teaching is based on appropriate learning targets and goals, based upon outcomes of diagnostic assessments. Lessons involve the use of a wide range of multi-sensory strategies and resources for learning.

Cumbria Reading Intervention

Cumbria Reading Intervention (CRI) is an intensive research-based programme that is highly effective at speeding up the development of children’s early literacy skills.  Each programme is unique and specifically planned for an individual child.  Teaching is based on detailed assessments at the start of the programme, these are repeated at the end to measure progress.  The programme usually involves 48 sessions of support delivered over a 12 week period.

Group reading and studies followed by exercises consisting of reading a passage of text with related questions designed to test a student’s understanding.

Guided Reading

An instructional approach, working in small groups.  The aim is to equip readers for a variety of texts.  It is a powerful way to support learners reading strategies and develop confident, independent readers.

Fresh Start

In Fresh Start lessons, students are taught to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension.  Alongside reading, they are taught the alphabetic code for spelling, and vocabulary and grammar. They work through 33 modules, each designed to address a specific sound in the alphabetic code, targeting reading, comprehension spelling, and punctuation.

Literacy Skills Lessons

All set 4 classes are working through a basic literacy skills scheme of work.

The scheme of work is in line with the Literacy/Numeracy Framework where possible.

Tests to be utilised at the start and end of each term to identify areas of weakness and monitor progression.
