Start of Term Arrangements
We will be releasing our return to school plan tomorrow. We are currently in the process of clarifying the guidance regarding the use of face masks and we are eager to complete this before sharing the full document with you. Thank you once again for your continued support.
We are re-issuing the overview plan that was sent out in July so that pupils, parents and carers know which days they need to attend.
Blended learning work will be made available next week for those year groups not in school during this restart period.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg - News Release
News Release
Date: 13.05.20
Help us to keep our children safe
Due to the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic, thousands of children within Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend, are remaining at home, which unfortunately is not always the safest place for some. There is a hidden group of children potentially at risk of abuse or neglect who are having much less interaction with statutory services.
It is for this reason that the Chairs of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board are urging the public to help our children to stay safe during the Covid-19 Pandemic, by being vigilant and looking out for any signs that a child may be experiencing abuse or neglect.
If anyone does have concerns, please do not turn the other way. We all have a duty to report and it's easy to do so. Simply contact your local Safeguarding Team on one of the numbers below:
Rhondda Cynon Taf (Children)- 01443 425006
Merthyr Tydfil - 01685 725000
Bridgend (Children) - 01656 642320
Opening Hours:
Monday - Thursday: 8.30am - 5.00pm
Friday: 8.30am - 4.30pm
Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: Closed
Out of Hours Emergencies
To contact social care services outside office hours, at weekends and bank holidays, contact the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Emergency Duty Team on 01443 743665 (this covers RCT, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend).
If you suspect a child is at immediate risk of harm call 999 and speak to the Police.
Safeguarding is everyone’s business!
Letter from Headteacher 11/05/2020
Dear Parent/Carer,
Aberdare Community School was saddened to learn this weekend of the death of Mrs Nicola Hughes (Office Manager). Mrs Hughes was diagnosed with cancer during the autumn term and has been receiving on going treatment. Her sudden death has shocked us all.
Mrs Hughes has been an invaluable member of the ACS team since the school was established, and prior to that she worked at Aberdare Boys’ School. Mrs Hughes cared deeply about the success of ACS, and always went over and above to support the school and its pupils. We will all miss her very much.
Our thoughts are with Mrs Hughes’ family at this time and in an effort to try and respond to her death in a positive way, we are informing all learners at Aberdare Community School.
When someone dies, their family and friends have lots of feelings – sadness, anger and confusion – which are all normal. For some learners the death of someone they know may remind them of some other loss in their lives. For others, this may be their first encounter with death. If you would like some information on how to best support your child at home this is available from the school or can be accessed on the school website.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school if we can be of additional assistance to you and/or your child during this difficult time.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs C Morgans
