Advanced Level Results 2017

Aberdare Community School is delighted to announce their third set of A Level results and would like to congratulate all of the pupils and staff for their hard work and commitment. A fantastic 96% of Year 13 pupils secured level 3 qualifications. The percentage of pupils achieving A*-C was 65%, with the vast majority of pupils achieving what they need for their first choice universities. This is a fantastic achievement.

Operation Orange Bellatrix

Dear Parent,

I am writing to you to request your support for ‘Operation Orange Bellatrix’ which will be running during the summer holidays in the Cynon Valley area.

Traditionally, during the summer period we see an increase in anti-social behaviour such as disorderly conduct driven by youths’ misuse of alcohol and drugs and this is of great concern for our local communities.

To address this, we will be working with partners in the British Transport Police, Rhondda Cynon Taff council and the Cwm Taf Youth Offending Service to target such behaviour in the Aberdare town centre and outlying areas.

It is the priority of officers to ensure that everybody that comes to the town centre has a safe and enjoyable time.  Officers will take positive action when dealing with those that cause anti- social behaviour, those involved in drug and alcohol abuse or those deemed vulnerable.

British Transport police will support us by having a presence on the local rail network to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour and provide hi visibility reassurance patrols.

The purpose of Operation Orange Bellatrix is to prevent young person’s coming to harm through alcohol & drug misuse and involvement in Anti-Social Behaviour.

I would be grateful if I could rely upon your support during the summer period, working with us to ensure young persons’ safety.  If you have any concerns regarding alcohol abuse, drug misuse or information which may assist my officers feel free to give me a call on 01685 724212.

Respectfully,

Sgt 3418 Mike Rudall.
Deputy Local Policing Inspector
Aberdare.

National Reading and Numeracy Tests Results 2017

Dear Parent/Carer,
National Reading and Numeracy Tests that were undertaken in May. These tests are administered annually by the Welsh Government. The national tests give every school in Wales the same information on reading and numeracy skills for all their learners. The tests are not a replacement for other types of assessment used in school across the whole curriculum. The results from the tests add to the information that schools and teachers already have about achievement in reading and numeracy from their work with learners every day in the classroom.

The National Reading Test consists of a number of passages followed by short, closed response and multiple choice type questions. The National Numeracy Test is split into two sections. One section assesses knowledge of numerical procedures such as the four number operations, equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages and work on area and volume. The other, the reasoning test, assesses learners’ ability to apply this knowledge to everyday problems.

As part of the national reading and numeracy testing programme, the test outcomes for individual learners are provided to parents/carers in the form of a Pupil Results Sheet. The Pupil Results Sheet includes notes that will explain the presentation of results. You may also find it useful to refer to the Welsh Government’s Reading and numeracy tests in Wales. Information for parents is available online at: http://learning.gov.wales/resources/browse-all/reading-and-numeracy-tests-information-for-parents-carers/?lang=en

There is also a link on the school website to a useful video which explains the Pupil Results in more detail.
