Urgent Update
Pnawn da
I wanted to inform pupils, parents and carers that RCTCBC have issued the following press statement this afternoon.
‘We are aware of a small number of school staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days in six different school settings.
These include Aberdare Community School, Pontygwaith Primary School, Cymmer Primary School, Llwynypia Primary School, Gelli Primary and Ysgol Evan James.
Test Trace Protect teams are working with those affected and contacting those people who have been in contact with a person who has tested positive.
Public Health Wales is working with the Local Authority to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to ensure safety within school communities.
To date, classes at two schools (Pontygwaith Primary School and Cymmer Primary Schools) are self-isolating. The cases in the other schools continue to be investigated.
Other years groups will be attending school as normal following an assessment of close contacts with the confirmed cases.
All schools with confirmed cases are deep cleaned to minimise risks in affected areas and strict preventative controls will continue to be operated.’
I would like to assure all pupils, parents and carers that necessary processes are being followed and that we are working closely with RCTCBC and all appropriate agencies.
I can confirm that no pupils have been in close contact with any confirmed case and that we have been co-operating fully with the necessary agencies.

Update Regarding the Use of Face Coverings
Update Regarding the Use of Face Coverings:
1st September 2020
The Welsh Government announced last Wednesday that it now recommends the use of face coverings/masks for people aged 11 and above indoors where social distancing cannot be maintained, including in schools and on school transport.
Learners will therefore need to wear face coverings (3 layer) from Thursday 3rd September :
· on school transport and public transport
· in corridors & stairwells
· in communal areas indoors
Face masks are not required to be worn in classrooms or outdoor areas where learners are within their ‘bubble’ although learners may wear them if they so wish.
The school will provide one face covering for all learners.
As learners will need to remove and replace their face covering throughout the day, please provide your child with a plastic bag to support them in maintaining this hygienically.
Guidance will be given in the induction sessions on the safe use, removal and storage of face coverings.
Learners may be excused from wearing face masks where there is a medical / health reason not to do so. Parents should contact the relevant Progress Leader to discuss this in advance of the learner attending school if this is the case.
Please be assured that the safety of the children in our care is, and will always be, our top priority. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.
*We do not intend to be prescriptive by disallowing masks with designs and logos, however any that have a design or logo that may be considered offensive to others (and this judgement is at the discretion of the school) will not be permitted.
