With the 2017-18 academic year drawing to a close I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody involved with Aberdare Community School for their warm welcome and strong support during my tenure as headteacher here.

I hope that you all had a thoroughly enjoyable Bank Holiday and that you were able to make the most of the sun.

Many of you will now be aware that I will be leaving Aberdare Community School at the end of this term to take up the post of headteacher of Whitchurch High School in Cardiff.

It is difficult to imagine a more eventful week than the week just gone!

Firstly, Bugsy Malone. I am sure that nobody who was at The Coliseum Theatre last week to see our school show will forget the joy of witnessing such talent and commitment as we saw on that stage.

I would like to begin by wishing a happy new year to everybody associated with the school.  I sincerely hope that you all had a lovely Christmas break and have had a great start to 2018.

I can think of no finer way to draw to an end my first Autumn Term in Aberdare Community School than to have had the pleasure and privilege of attending our annual carol concert on Tuesday night.

I was delighted this term to have attended two evenings of the Shakespeare Schools Festival.  Our Year 10 pupils performed an outstanding production of Romeo and Juliet in the Coliseum and were invited to repeat the performance in Theatr Brecheiniog in Brecon.

We have been back for over a month now and our year groups are settling into the challenges of the new school year.   I am delighted to be able to report that I am receiving excellent feedback about our Year 7 pupils and how well they have adapted to the demands of secondary school life.
